“Barking Up the Right Tree: Leadership Lessons from Dog Training”

In this interview, Robert Middleton invited me to share the parallels between corporate leadership and dog training. I explained that my program, “Dog-Gone Leadership,” leverages the ordinary experience of dog ownership to teach critical leadership skills.

I emphasize that there are many similarities between dog behavior and training and effective leadership in the workplace. And my program aims to help leaders thrive in their roles by fostering better relationships and achieving results without compromising either.

Additionally, I highlight that leadership requires adapting to various individuals’ needs, much like understanding and responding to different dogs’ behaviors. Participants can enhance their leadership abilities at work by improving their leadership skills with their dogs.

I also address the broader goal of reducing the number of dogs in shelters by encouraging program participants to adopt rescue dogs.
